George D. Finnie was inducted into the Alumni Athletic Association Hall of Fame in 1980.

George Finnie's interest in athletics and young people started over 60 years ago in Youngstown as he worked with his wife Nita as a playground director in his hometown. Then, after graduation from Adelbert College of Western Reserve University in 1917, George spent two years with the 37th Ohio Division in World War I.

George Finnie began his life's profession as a certified public accountant in 1921 with the Youngstown office of Ernst & Ernst. Nine years later he joined the staff of Haskins & Sells in the Cincinnati office. In 1937 the organization of Wilson, Finnie & Co., Certified Public Accoutants, was founded, with offices in the Hanna Building. Mr. Finnie remained the managing partner of the firm until a merger in 1974 with another local firm.

Devoted to the educational development of young people, George was a member of the Baldwin-Wallace College Board of Trustees since April, 1969. During Founders' Day ceremonies in October, 1970, he was made an honorary alumnus and was awarded a Doctor of Humane Letters degree for his outstanding services to the College and community.

The George Finnie Stadium, rated as the finest NCAA Division III football and track facility in the nation, has been the site of two NCAA Division III playoff games and two national track championships since opening in 1971.

An avid follower of B-W athletic teams, George was greatly interested in the annual recruiting drive to pick out top student athletes. He was also a regular participant in ceremonies honoring Yellow Jacket athletes.
