Shannon Lakatosh Chung '99 left her mark on the Yellow Jacket track program as an exceptional student-athlete and both an NCAA Division III All-American and a GTE Academic All-American. In fact, Shannon still holds a pair of BW track records, one as a member of the outdoor 4 x 400 meter relay team and individually indoors in the 200-meter dash.

In the classroom, Shannon was an elementary education major and carried a better than 3.6 grade point average and was both an Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference and GTE Academic All-District IV selection three times.  On the track, she was a multiple Ohio Athletic Conference champion, an OAC Most Valuable Runner and a three-time Division III All-American.

At the beginning of her senior season in 1998, Shannon was named OAC Indoor Most Valuable Runner.  During her senior season alone, Shannon dominated the 1999 NCAA Division III National Championship Meet at Otterbein by winning the 200-meter dash in 25.82 seconds, running on the winning and nationally qualifying 400-meter relay team in 48.07 seconds and running on the winning 1600-meter relay team.  She also won the 400-meter dash and qualified nationally with a career-best time of 57.93 seconds.

Shannon was an All-American in the indoor 400-meter dash in 1998 and 1999, an All-American in outdoor in the 4x400-meter in 1998, indoor Most Valuable Performer in the OAC in 1998 and 1999, and a National Qualifier in the 4x100-meter four years in a row, 4x400-meter three years in a row.  In addition, she was an All-Conference running in the 100-meter, 200-meter, 400-meter, 4x100-meter, 4x200-meter, 300-meter, and 4x400-meter in track.

In addition to her many exploits on the track, Shannon was a Dean's List student and was a member of Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society, Campus Crusade for Christ, the Newman Center, Community Outreach, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, served as a Bible Study leader and earned a National Teachers Scholarship.

Today, Shannon is a stay-at-home mother following a six-year teaching career, including a year in the Grand Valley School District and five in the Chardon School District. She and her husband, Roy, are the parents of a son, Luke, and enjoy serving at their church in the inner city.
