Michael G. Hritz, M.D. was a three-year letterwinner in football, member of the 1968 Ohio Athletic Conference Championship team and was the starting defensive tackle in the 1969 victory over the University of Connecticut.  During his time at BW, Dr Hritz was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity, the Bach Festival Chorus for five years, the Neuman Club and worked on campus in the dining hall as a "tray dumper" and washed dishes.  He was awarded the BW Family Heritage Award (Hritz and Abdallah Families).  After BW, Dr. Hritz earned a Medical Doctor degree from Case Western Reserve in 1975. Today, Dr. Hritz is a Retired Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon with Orthopedic Associates, Inc. based in Westlake Ohio.  In addition, he served as BW's Orthopedic Consultant for over 20 years, including game coverage, performing team physicals, holding orthopedic clinics whenever necessary, and offering instruction to staff in the prevention and treatment of athletic injuries.  Dr. Hritz provided medical coverage for St. Ignatius High School Football Team and performed team physicals for over 30 years.  He was a Cleveland Clinic Orthopedic Surgery Residency from 1975 to 1979, Orthopedic Trauma Fellowship, University of Maryland / Shock Trauma Program from 1979 to 1980, began a private practice in Westlake and Lorain in 1980 and became Chief of Orthopedic Surgery at St. John Westshore Hospital in 1984.  Dr. Hritz has been recognized for his work with service to the BW Athletic Training Program in 1988 and 2000, Ohio Athletic Trainers Association with the O.A. T. A. Team Physician Award in 2005, the Society of St. Luke Physician Recognition Program through UH St. John Medical Center, Westlake Ohio in 2017.  He earned Board Certification in Orthopedic Surgery in 1981 and was elected to the Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons in 1984 and the Arthroscopy Association of North America in 1994.  Outside of the medical world, Dr. Hritz earned a United States Coast Guard Merchant Marine Officer License " Captain’s License" including 100 ton Master's License. 2005
