James Tyree '55 graduated from Baldwin-Wallace in 1955 and was inducted in to the Alumni Athletic Association Hall of Fame in 1982.

Tyree, considered one of B-W's greatest athletes, signed with the Cleveland Indians after graduating from high school in 1949, and two years later arrived at B-W.

On the gridiron James played both offense and defense, and in 1952 set a school record for punting, averaging 42.18 yards/punt throughout the season. The following season, he was honored as team MVP and named to the All-Ohio and All-Greater Cleveland First Teams. In his senior year, Jim was selected as team captain, but injury kept him out of action for most of the season.

On the mat, Jim was a four-year letterman. Fellow wrestlers admired his unselfishness, high moral character and inspiration.

On the track, he earned three letters. Running the 100 yard, 220 yard and the 440 yard dashes, participating in relays and the long jump, Jim became a valuable all-around member of the squad.

Graduating from B-W in 1955, he taught and coached at Highland High School, where he enjoyed an undefeated season in football. In 1958, he received his masters in education from Kent State University and began teaching and coaching at Stow High School.

For 23 years he remained at Stow where he coached track from 1956 to 1959, football from 1956 to 1960, soccer from 1960 to 1968, and won six state championships as wrestling coach.
