John M. Summa was inducted into the Alumni Athletic Association Hall of Fame in 1982.

Summa gave many years of service and dedication to B-W and its wrestling program. He believed a good education was the top priority for his wrestlers and that wrestling was a part of that education.

Over 200 team victories and six Ohio Athletic Conference team championships comprised coach Summa's overall record. He coached two NCAA Division III All-Americans, B-W's first NCAA Division III National Champion, and more individual OAC Champions than any other OAC school.

Summa became head wrestling coach at B-W in 1948, a position he held for 32 years until his retirement in 1980. During that time, he was also director of aviation technologies at Cuyahoga Community College-Western Campus from 1968 to 1977 and was a teacher in the Berea School System from 1953 to 1968.

In 1955, Coach Summa received his masters of education from Western Reserve University.

In honor of 25 years of service to the College, some of Summa's former student athletes established the John Summa Scholarship Fund, which assists deserving students receive a college education.
