Jen Swinehart '99, a native of Wooster, Ohio and a graduate of Wooster Senior High School, was one of the most pure shooters in Division III basketball for four seasons and one of the most technically sound players to ever play at BW. She also was one of the most celebrated hoopsters in school history. But most importantly, Swinehart was grounded by her academics and is just one of three BW student-athletes to ever earn CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America of the Year honors.
On the basketball court, Swinehart helped the Yellow Jackets to a 90-23 record, four straight NCAA Division III Tournament appearances and its first-ever Ohio Athletic Conference regular season and OAC Tournament titles as a senior in 1998-99.
Individually, she scored 1,309 career points to rank third on the all-time scoring list. Her 437 points as senior and 372 markers as a junior ranked second and 10th all-time, respectively.
Swinehart was an OAC Clyde Lamb recipient, a 1998-99 Kodak/WBCA Division III All-American and a CoSIDA Academic All-American. She also was a first-team All-Great Lakes Region choice, a three-time All-OAC selection (1997-99), two-time Academic All-OAC choice (1998 and 1999) and the OAC Player of the Year in 1998-99. She additionally was named as the OAC Player of the Week twice and four times earned all-tournament team recognition, including being the Most Valuable Player of the Salisbury State (Md.) tourney in 1997 and the BW Marcia French tourney in 1998.
Swinehart loved to shoot the three-pointer. Her 67 three-pointers in a season and her career 46.7 percent shooting from three-point range are still school records today. As a senior, Swinehart lead the OAC and all of Division III by shooting 51.1 percent from three-point range. She also grabbed 292 rebounds, passed for 221 assists, made 108 steals and blocked 43 shots. For her career, Swinehart made 52% of her field goal attempts (528-of-1016) and made 91.2% of her foul shots (83-of-91).
Academically, Swinehart carried a 3.9 grade point average in pre-physical therapy and served as a student athletic trainer when she wasn't on the basketball court. In addition to her Academic All-OAC honors, she was a three-time GTE Academic All-District IV choice.
Swinehart also was a member of the Alpha Lambda Honor Society, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, COAST (College Student Athletes Training Organization) and the Physical Therapy and Exercise Physiology Club.
