Described by the 1949-50 B-W basketball brochure as " unquestionably one of B-W's all-time top players," Dick "Shorty" Selgo capped an outstanding college career in football, basketball, and bowling by setting B-W's career basketball scoring record in 1950 with 1152 points (today stands 21st).

Selgo, a 5-11 guard for coach Ray Watts' squads, was the shortest starter for his last three seasons, but became a dangerous scorer on the Jackets' fast break.

Selgo's first year at B-W was 1945-46.  He spent the next 18 months in the army and returned to B-W in 1947 to start the next three seasons for the Jackets.

His top year was 1947-48, when as a sophomore he scored 344 points.  In successive seasons he scored 289 and 336 points.

A member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity, Selgo was also a member of the Jacket football team his freshman year.  He was an outstanding bowler, averaging 204 in the College intramural league and over 180 overall.

Selgo, was head basketball and baseball coach at Pettisville (Ohio) High School, and was a physical education and history teacher.

He and his wife, Margeret, had three sons: Richard Jr., Jim, and Tim.
