For 24 years (1975-1999), Dr. Neal Malicky and his wife, Margi, were staunch supporters of Baldwin Wallace University athletics. He was once heard saying that "Athletics are a part of the educational experience of our student-athletes and not apart from it". Dr. Malicky also was well known for the many, many notes of congratulations, support and encouragement that he sent to students after games and events.

Dr. Malicky joined the University in 1975 to serve as Dean of the University and six years later was named President where he led BW for the next 18 years until his retirement.

When asked about the qualities BW possesses, Dr. Malicky offered a number of reasons. The creative opportunities and meaningful challenges which are an integral part of the college are very attractive to him and at the same time, an unwavering commitment to the institution and its people. The student energy, faculty commitment, trustee cooperation, and alumni loyalty all contribute to the success of his motto of "Quality Education with a Personal Touch," while at the same time making Dr. Malicky's job an overall enjoyable experience.

Dr. Malicky, a former amateur baseball player and an avid runner for many years, attended almost every athletic event and was never at a loss for supporting each and every BW program. He constantly sent notes to student-athletes to laud their accomplishments or took time to stop and talk with them about their athletics exploits.

Following his presidency, Dr. Malicky served the University as its Chancellor for several years. He and Margi have since returned to their native Kansas where they reside today.
