Tom A. Goosby '62 graduated from BW in 1962 and was inducted into the Alumni Athletic Association Hall of Fame in 1977.

His talent did not betray Goosby, but his knees did. Despite a small-college background, Goosby found that he was qualified for the NFL. He belonged when healthy, that is. When hobbling, he was replaceable. Then it was, "Find a real job, Tom."

Goosby was a player of note at Alliance High School and chose Baldwin-Wallace to continue his exploits. He earned four letters for the Yellow Jackets as a offensive guard and linebacker from 1959-1962. He was one decorated dude in his senior year when he was named NAIA All-American at guard and was selected the top lineman in the Ohio Conference.

The Cleveland Browns saw him as more than just a hometown hero and picked him in the 15th round of the 1962 draft. The Browns liked his instincts at middle linebacker and used him there in a reserved role in 1963. Goosby had a legitimate chance to start in 1964, but a practice collision with tight end Johnny Brewer resulted in major damage to both knees. The injuries -- ligament and cartilage damage to both -- were the first injuries of his career.

Goosby missed 1964 and wasn't physically or mentally ready in 1965. He was back the next year, but the Browns traded him to the Redskins. Goosby was a starter at left guard for coach Otto Graham, but his knees slowed him considerably at the end. He was cut in training camp the following season and spent 1967 with the British Columbia Lions of the CFL.

After retiring, Goosby was an NFL scout for three years before finding employment with the University of Akron in 1970. Goosby, a member of the Summit County Sports Hall of Fame, was the school's director of recreational and athletic facilities until his permanent retirement in 2006.
