Robert C. Cawrse '38 graduated from BW in 1938 and was inducted into the Alumni Athletic Association Hall of Fame in 1979.

"In recognition of his inspirational leadership, increasing devotion to the coaching profession and untiring efforts on behalf of the young men of many squads" was inscription on a trophy which was presented to Bob Cawrse by the Greater Cleveland Coaches Association as a recipient of the Golden Deeds Award in 1963.  It really sums up the man himself and his dedication to athletics.  Bob was one of the founders of the Greater Cleveland Coaches Association in 1949 and also helped to establish the first grid clinic in the area. 

At B-W, he was a stand-out center for the Yellow Jacket football teams of 1935, 1936, and 1937 when he was named center for the All-Ohio football team.  Bob's Greek affiliation was Alpha Tau Omega.  After receiving his bachelor's degree in education administration, Bob earned his master's degree in 1949 and his doctorate in 1963 from Western Reserve University.  He has completed additional graduate work at Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration; Harvard University's Advanced Administrative Institutesand Columbia University.

His professional education experience has been as a high school teacher and coach; assistant principal at Shaw High School; principal at Rocky River High School; Superintendent of Schools in Chagrin Falls 1961-64, Bay Village 1964-71 and Lakewood 1971-75.

Bob was presented the B-W Alumni Merit Award in 1968, and served as president of the B-W National Alumni Association 1974-1977.  He has been a member of the Board of Directors of Ohio High School Football Coaches Association; National Society for the Study Study of Education; Lakewood Rotary Club; a trustee of Great Lake Shakespeare Festival and past president of Cuyahoga County School Superintendents of Association.  He is listed in Who's Who in the Midwest and Who's Who in American Education.

Bob served as a consultant to the Ohio Board of Regents.

He was married to the former Mary Jane Braithwaite '40 and they have three children, Mrs. Thomas Hodgson (Susan), Dr. Robert T. Cawrse, Lt., U.S. Naval Dental Corps, and James Cawrse.
