Steve Varga '84 was one of the most prolific kickers in Baldwin Wallace, Ohio Athletic Conference and NCAA Division III history.  Steve's biggest claim to fame was kicking the winning field goal in the 1983 OAC Championship Game as BW defeated rival Wittenberg University, 17-14. Steve was then able to make it to the next level and signed a contract with the NFL's New England Patriots.

Steve was a four-year BW letterman (1980-83), three-year outstanding specialist at BW (1981-83), three-year All-Ohio Athletic Conference first-team selection (1981-83), Chevrolet Most Valuable Player of a nationally televised BW game (October 3, 1982), Kodak College Division III All-American selection (1983) and Pizza Hut Division III first-team All-American (1983). Steve's statistics at BW were impressive. He made 32-of-54 field goals and 77-of-87 extra points for 173 career points to rank second all-time in kick scoring in school history. Steve's longest field goal was of 47 yards in his junior season, versus Heidelberg.

While working for the Department of Defense for the last 15 years, Steve and his family lived a number of years overseas and recently have rejoined our community in Northeast Ohio. Steve and his wife, Valerie, have two sons, Marko and Nicholas, and are looking forward attending BW football games and meeting old friends.
