Bob Mihuta '49, a native of Amherst, Ohio, was one of the finest relay sprinters in Yellow Jacket history.

The four-year letterman earned All-Ohio accolades in 1947, 1948 and 1949 in the 100-yard dash and in the 880-yard run. He was the lead runner on the championship 4x220-yard and 4x440-yard relay teams that set national records while at the University. Mihuta also participated on BW's national championship/college division 4x440 relay team. He ran leadoff on an 880 relay team that set a school-record of 1:26.6 at the Drake Relays and the same squad placed first at the Purdue Relays in both 1948 and 49. The late and legendary Eddie Finnegan once described Mihuta as the "indispensable runner" on the team becase of his ability to compete in both sprints and middle distance races.

The health and physical education major and English minor was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. Following graduation, Mihuta taught health education and first aid and served as the safety director at Rocky River High School for seven years. He also served as faculty manager and director of athletics. Mihuta then went on to work as a business executive in senior level management and as head of industrial relations at the Union Carbide Company in Cleveland in 1955 before being transferred to Bennington, Vermont in 1961.
