Thomas Mental graduated from BW in 1974 and was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame in 1991. 

Mental was a key member of the Yellow Jacket football and baseball programs. 

In football, Mental was a three-year letterman, the Most Outstanding Freshman, a co-recipient of the Frank Ropollo Award, the first-team All-Ohio Athletic Conference quarterback and B-W Most Valuable Player in 1973. In 1974, he was the Outstanding Senior Male Athlete.

In baseball, Mental was an exceptional pitcher and hitter. He earned four letters and was the first-team All-OAC first baseman and B-W Most Valuable Player in 1974 while batting better than .300. He had a career batting average of .321.

In addition to playing football and baseball, Mental was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity.

Mental was a successful high school football coach. He coached the Shaw High School Cardinals and had a career record of 54-15-1. Mental led the team to a 10-0 regular season record while scoring a school-record 350 points. Mental's teams won four Lake Erie League championships.

Mental has been named LEL Coach of the Year, Northeast Ohio Division I Coach of the Year and the Plain Dealer Greater Cleveland Coach of the Year. Mental is a graduate of of Newbury High School where he was captain of both the football and basketball teams. In football, he was a high school All-American and earned All-Ohio honors. In basketball, he was an All-Scholastic pick and also earned All-Ohio honors. 

Mental lives in Chagrin Falls with his wife Laurie and has two sons, Todd and Scott.
