Kathy Newton '50 graduated from BW in 1950 and was inducted into the Alumni Athletic Association Hall of Fame in 1995.

Newton excelled in many sports while attending Baldwin-Wallace, but it was her excellence on the golf course after graduation that has placed her in the Women's Alumni Athletic Hall of Fame.

At Baldwin-Wallace, Newton participated heavily in intramural sports. She claimed individual championships in all of the following sports: badminton, bowling, golf, swimming, table tennis and tennis. In addition, Newton was named to the Who's Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities, was a member of Sigma Delta Pi, a Spanish honorary, and was the president of the Women's Recreation Association. She also was a committee chairman of the Student Assembly and Student Council.

After graduation, Newton's amateur golfing career began to take off. She played on the Florida Amateur Golf Circuit from 1955-57, and competed in many national women's amateur tournaments during the 1950's and 1960's. Newton has won the Acacia Country Club Championship 20 times, the Cleveland City title seven times and the Tri-League Championship three times. She was the 1963 Ohio Women's Amateur Champion and a runner-up in 1961. her low round of 71 was fired at Shaker Heights Country Club.

Newton is a retired teacher and counselor. She spent time in the Kirtland, Willoughby, Eastlake, and North High School systems. She earned her master's degree from Western-Reserve University in 1957. Newton resides in Willoughby.
