George "Chic" Wanner '68 graduated from Baldwin-Wallace in 1920 and was inducted in to the Alumni Athletic Hall of Fame in 1968.

Chic, as he was known by his classmates, captained the 1917 and 1919 Yellow Jacket Football teams. During the 1918 season, he answered his country's call to service and fought with the 83rd Infantry Division in the Meuse-Argonne offensive against Germany. He returned to Berea in the fall of 199 and won his third letter in football and basketball.

Wanner's many contributions to the College's athletic program did not end with his graduation in 1920. After a brief coaching debut in Iowa, he became assistant treasurer at Baldwin-Wallace and graduate manager of athletics. His experience as associate editor of the Grindstone and as a staff writer for the Exponent carried over to his new duties. Wanner reported Yellow Jacket sports for the Alumnus magazine and wrote the programs for the home events. He also was assistant coach in football and basketball.

In 1934, Wanner joined the Berea Savings and Loan Company and served as president until it was purchased by the Citizens' Federal Savings and Loan of Cleveland. He was vice president of the new association, retiring in 1963.

A devoted and loyal resident of the city of Berea where he lived for 34 years, Wanner served as a city councilman, was elected to four teams as city treasurer and was active in Berea's recreational softball and bowling programs. His genal personality and sincere affection for others will be greatly missed by the College and the community.
