DAVE ROZZO ’89 was a team leader on three Bob Fisher-coached baseball teams that advanced to the NCAA Division III National Tournament.

Dave helped lead the Yellow Jackets to an 80-72-2 record that included BW having the best OAC regular season record twice and one OAC Tournament title (1985). In addition and in those days, BW played one of the most competitive schedules in Division III baseball, including a number of contests versus NCAA Division II and NAIA powerhouses.

A two-time first-team All-OAC outfielder and three time All-OAC pick, Dave was named to both the OAC and NCAA Division III Regional All-Tournament teams. He also was a multiple OAC Hitter of the Week honoree in 1986 and 1987 and was recognized by USA Today in both 1986 and 1987 as a preseason All-American.

Dave was a four-year varsity standout and a 1988 team captain who had a .344 career batting average (151 for 439) in 132 career games with 97 runs scored, 34 doubles, four triples, nine home runs, 121 RBIs and 14 stolen bases in 15 attempts. At the time of his graduation in 1988, he was the all-time leader in base hits and RBIs.

Dave also was the first player in BW history to hit three home runs in one game and five in a two-game span. He also had the most doubles by a BW player in the 1980s, and  a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage in 1986 (60 chances without an error).

In addition to playing baseball, Dave was a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and served as its president in 1988. He was a four-year student assistant in the sports information office.

Today, Dave is married to Katie Rozzo and is a high school history and mathematics teacher at Saint John High School in Ashtabula. He formerly served as both a coach and athletics director at the school.
