As an undergraduate, Gay Wellington Geigel '70 was involved in a number of sports including field hockey, basketball, badminton and tennis. She was a 1970 badminton doubles champion and also was named the outstanding senior women's tennis player. Following graduation, the health and physical education major, pursued a career as an instructor in a wide variety of athletics, such as aquatics, golf and gymnastics, but her major focus was tennis.

Listed in the international Who's Who in Tennis, she was a tennis pro at Rock Creek and Four Seasons racquet clubs, and Lake Forest Country Club. She was the girls' tennis coach for the Aurora Board of Education and Cuyahoga Community College West.  She is a member of the U.S. Tennis Association and listed in the U.S. Professional Tennis Registry.
