Robert is often regarded as of of Baldwin-Wallace's premiere swimmers. Morningstar was a four-year letter winner at B-W, and he was named the Outstanding B-W Swimmer of the Year at the winter sports banquet in both his junior and senior year. Morningstar was a captain of the Yellow Jackets swimming team in 1969 and 1970, and turned in a sparkling senior year to cap off an outstanding four-year career. During his senior campaign, he set seven pool records, three Baldwin-Wallace records, one Ohio Athletic Conference record, and a United States record in individual events. He was also a member of the relay teams that set three pool records and two Baldwin-Wallace records.

Morningstar's unparalleled success during the 1970 season was evidenced by his undefeated regular season in the 50-yard, 60-yard, and 100-yard freestyle events. At the 1970 Ohio Conference Swimming and Diving Championships held at Denison Univeristy, he placed first in the 50-yard freestyle event while setting a new conference record for that event.

Morningstar was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity during his college days, and recieved his Bachelors degree from B-W in 1970. He went on to complete his masters degree in 1974 from Kent State University.

After his college years, Morningstar took his swimming genius to Massillion High School where he led the high school swim team to a dual meet record of 20 wins and 8 losses.

Currently, Robert is a biology teacher at Longfellow Junior High School in Massillon where he is coaching ninth grade football. He and his wife, Nancy, reside in Massillion with their two children.
