TED J. THEODORE '51

Ted J. Theodore '51 was elected to the Baldwin Wallace College Alumni Athletic Association Hall of Fame in 1975. In addition to being an outstanding student and athlete while at the College, Ted later became an iconic Alumni Director.  The teacher and coach, administrator went on to have a great career as the City Manager of the City of Euclid, Ohio and then as BW's Director of Parent & Alumni Relations.

In the post World War II years, East Tech High School in Cleveland dominated the track scene and Baldwin-Wallace was easily the kingpin among the local college thinclads. One of the key contributors to their dominance was Ted Theodore.

Running the 440-yard dash and 880-yard run and on record-breaking one-mile and two-mile relay teams for legendary East Tech Coach Ivan Greene, Theodore captained the Scarabs to the 1946 city title and a second place finish in the Ohio High School Athletic Association State Championship Meet. The two relay teams completely dominated their competition winning blue ribbons in the Cleveland Indoor Senate meet, the West Tech and Ohio Wesleyan Relays and the district meet en route to a pair of state titles.

Ted added to his high school laurels by winning the 440-yard dash at the National Junior Olympic Championships run at Municipal Stadium, and collected additional gold as a member of the winning mile relay.

At Baldwin Wallace, Ted would win All-Ohio Championships in 440, 880 and mile relay four straight years and captained the 1950 team.

Entering the Army, Ted coached and captained the Ft. Knox (Ky.) team to two runner-up finishes in the 2nd Army Championships.

Returning to civilian life he would devote several years to coaching cross country and track teams at Berea, Midpark and Euclid High schools while winning a multitude of championships.

Ted continued to serve in a variety of administrative and service roles subsequently in the Euclid Schools and community and also for Baldwin-Wallace. Ted continued to remain active in the track world as a registered OHSAA track official for high school and colleges for 45 years. He also served as the announcer for the Knights of Columbus Track Meet for 20 years. Ostensibly retired, Ted continued to officiate track and becme an avid golfer.

Today, Ted, and his wife Irene (Paul) '53, are the parents of four very successful children, Helene, Claire, T.J. and Scott, and reside in Cuyahoga Falls. And, yes, Ted is still golfing!
