Thomas Maher '71 graduated from BW in 1971 and was inducted into the Alumni Athletic Association Hall of Fame in 1993.

Maher dedicated his life to being one of America's top educators since graduation from B-W in 1971. At B-W, Maher was outstanding football player and student.

While at B-W, Maher was a four-year letterman in football. He was the Outstanding Freshman (1967), the B-W Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman (1968 and 1970), a three-time All-OAC selection, a team captain in 1970 and the Frank Ropollo Award winner. Maher also was named in the 1971 edition of The Outstanding College Athletes in America. He was B-W's Most Valuable Senior Male in 1971. 

In addition, Maher was active on campus. He was a member of numerous academic honoraries and a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity.

Following graduation from B-W in 1971, Maher earned his master's degree in education from Miami University and Ed. S degree from Cleveland State University in 1979. He also took additional course work at several universities, including The Ohio State University, University of Florida, St. Leo (Fla.) College, Ashland University and Andrews (Mich.) University.

Professionally, Maher began his teaching career in in 1971. In 1979, he was named as the principal at the Chagrin Falls Middle School. Maher worked as principal and then as the director of pupil personnel in the Berea City Schools until 1989. He has seved as an Assistant Superintendent and Superintedent in Florida, Statewide Director in Florida, Superintendent in Ohio, and won many local, state and national awards for his leadership in education.  Maher finished his career as CEO and President of a large non-profit helping abused, neglected and abondoned children in Florida.

Maher and his wife, the former Gail Stephens '73, have two sons.
