Alfred B. Bonds Jr. served as B-W President (1956-1981) and was inducted into the Alumni Athletic Association Hall of Fame in 1981.

In 1955, a man who was to become unique among college presidents was called back from Egypt to be named B-W's fifth mentor.  Dr. A.B. Bonds was serving as chief of the U.S. Education Mission when B-W decided he was the man needed.

Dr. Bonds realized that to serve best as a school, B-W needed top individuals and modern facilities.  He also knew that students were necessary to have a college.  He made every effort to get to know as many students as possible, to learn of their opinions and to bridge the gap between student body and college administration.  During his 26-year tenure, his door was always open, while he dedicated his efforts to seeking outstanding educators and administrators, and to improving the College's facilities.

In addition to classroom and fine-arts buildings, one of the finest small-college football, soccer and track facilities in the nation was built, largely through his doing, as well as the outstanding tennis center.  A tradition of B-W excellence on the field was added to those already existent, of excellence in the classroom and on the stage, traditions upon which Bonds was always trying to improve.

The athletic teams brought home one national championship, two regional titles, 30 Ohio Athletic Conference championships and four more divisional crowns.  Dr. Alfred Bryan Bonds Jr. saw it all.
