WESTERVILLE, OHIO – The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team split an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader at Otterbein University, losing the first game, 9-3, but more importantly winning the nightcap, 9-7, at Fishbaugh Field. The second game victory gave the Yellow Jackets a tie of the school single-season record of 27 wins. You can read more about the first game here.

With its win, BW ends its season at 27-13 overall and 11-7 in the OAC and tied last year's squad that set the record with an identical seasonal mark.  Since Head Coach Brian Harrison arrived on campus, BW has produced a 71-43 mark. With its second game loss, Otterbein is 24-15 overall and 10-8 in the OAC.

The Cardinals opened the scoring with four runs in the top of the second inning on five hits.

The Yellow Jackets started to chip away at the lead in the top of the fourth inning when freshman second baseman Mark Zimmerman (Akron/Green) had a run-scoring single to right center field to score junior CAPITAL ONE Academic All-District VII third baseman Brad Gugliotta (Twinsburg), who singled to start the inning. In the top of the fifth, BW added three runs when junior catcher Joe Hiller (Twinsburg) singled to right field to score sophomore shortstop Eric Murphy (Brook Park/Midpark) with the first tally and the Yellow Jackets added two more via a pair of Cardinal errors to tie the game at 4-4.

In the seventh frame, the Yellow Jackets took a 6-4 lead when sophomore right fielder Alex Green (Pickerington/North) singled up the middle to score senior All-OAC center fielder Nolan Neuschaefer (Elyria) and senior CAPITAL ONE Academic All-American left fielder Brendan Toughey (East Amherst. N.Y./St. Joseph's Collegiate Academy). Toughey ends his career with a single-season school-record 66 runs scored this season.

Otterbein regained the lead at 7-6 in the bottom of the seventh with three runs on three Cardinal hits.

BW scored the game-winning runs in the top of the eighth inning. A Neuschaefer RBI double scored Murphy, and Hiller and Neuschaefer each scored unearned runs via Otterbein miscues.
