BALDWIN WALLACE ATHLETICS INFORMATION:   Brendan Toughey played four seasons of baseball at Baldwin Wallace University and was one of the most celebrated student-athletes in the history of the sport at the University.

The 2013 undergraduate will graduate with a 3:2 degree in the University's Master's of Business Administration/ Accounting Program in 2014.

CAPITAL ONE ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICAN OF THE YEAR:   As a senior in 2012-2013, Brendan was named as the CAPITAL ONE Academic All-American of the Year for Division III. That signifies the highest honor a baseball student-athlete can receive in Division III.

CAPITAL ONE ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICAN:   Brendan was a first-team CAPITAL ONE Academic All-American in both 2012 and 2013 and was a three-time CAPITAL ONE Academic All-District VII selection.

ADDITIONAL ACADEMIC All-OAC and OTHER ACADEMIC HONORS:   Brendan was an outstanding student who carried a 3.92 grade average. He was a Dean's List student, a member of the Alpha Lambda, Dayton C. Miller and Chi Sigma honor societies and a Jacket Scholar. Brendan also earned The Guy Fisher Award Academic Award of Excellence in 2011, 2012 and 2013 (the award is given to the baseball student-athlete who has the highest grade point average among major contributors to the program during a given season) and was recognized at both the 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 B-W Student-Athlete & Faculty Recognition Luncheon, for having the Highest Grade Point Average on the baseball team. He also earned Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference honors in 2011, 2012 and 2013.

ATHLETIC HONORS:  As a senior in 2012-2013, Brendan was named as an honorable mention D3baseball.com Division III All-American, a first-team ABCA (American Baseball Coaches Association) All-Mideast Region pick and as a first-team All-OAC selection. He was the OAC Hitter of the Week on both March 5 and April 15 and as a members of the www.d3baseball.com Team of the Week on April 16.  

As a junior in 2011-2012, Brendan was named as a second-team All-OAC player and as a third-team D3baseball.com Division III All-Mideast Region selection.

As a sophomore in 2010-2011, Brendan was named as the "Yellow Jacket Award" recipient.

SCHOOL RECORDS:  Brendan set a school single-season record for runs scored (66)  and hits (64) in 2013.  He also set the career record for runs scored  (153).

GENERAL BASEBALL INFORMATION:    Brendan Toughey is one of the best to ever play at Baldwin Wallace University. The two-time CAPITAL ONE Academic All-American and the 2013 CAPITAL ONE Academic All-American of the Year and D3baseball.com honorable mention Division III All-American helped BW to compile an 83-66-1 record, including a 54-26 mark as a junior and senior. He twice earned All-OAC honors (2012 and 2013), was tabbed All-Mideast Region (2012 and 2013) three times earned Academic All-OAC (2011-2013) and CAPITAL ONE Academic All-District VII (2011-2013) accolades.

Statistically, Brendan had a .356 career batting average (161-for-452) with a school career-record 153 runs scored, 31 doubles, six triples, five home runs, 65 runs batted-in (RBI) and 54 stolen bases in 56 attempts. He was successful on his first 42 steal attempts of his career. Brendan also was a solid outfielder.

As a freshman in 2009-2010, Brendan played in his first season of baseball and earned his first varsity letter.  He appeared in 27 games, starting 18 of them, all in the outfield.  Brendan hit .242 (15-for-62) with five doubles, seven runs batted-in and 16 runs scored.  He also stole four bases. B-W finished at 12-23-1. 

As a sophomore in 2010-2011, Brendan started in the outfield and earned his second letter.  He appeared in 23 games, starting 22, but missed 11 games due to an injury to start the season.  Brendan was third on the team in hitting with a .295 average, three doubles, one homerun, 18 runs scored, 11 RBI, a team-leading 13 walks and was seven-of-seven in stolen bases.  Brendan won the Yellow-Jacket Award, recognizing the individual whom displays excellence on and off the field. For his efforts in the classroom, Brendan was named as a third-team CAPITAL ONE Academic All-District IV student-athlete and as an honorable mention Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference choice. B-W finished 17-17.

As a junior in 2011-2012, Brendan played his third season of baseball and earned his third letter.  He started in left field. Individually, Brendan appeared and started in 40 games, had a .377 batting average (57-for-151), 10 doubles, 19 RBI, and a team-high and school single-season record 53 runs scored. Brendan also led the team in walks drawn with 21 and was a perfect 23-for-23 in stolen bases. For his efforts on the field, Brendan was named second-team All-OAC and third-team Division III All-Mideast Region by the www.d3baseball.com web site. For his efforts both on the field and in the classroom, he was a first-team CAPITAL ONE Academic All-District VII and first-team CAPITAL ONE Academic All-American student-athlete and an Academic All-OAC pick. B-W set a school-record with 27 wins and had a 27-13 record. 

As a senior in 2012-2013, Brendan played his fourth season of baseball and earned his fourth letter. He was one of the top scholar-athlete outfielders in NCAA Division III baseball as he was named as a first-team CAPITAL ONE Academic All-American, the CAPITAL ONE Division III Baseball Academic All-American of the Year, as a first-team CAPITAL ONE Academic All-District VII pick,  first-team All-OAC and first-team ABCA (American Baseball Coaches Association) All-Mideast Region and as an Academic All-OAC choice. He was the OAC Hitter of the Week on both March 5 and on April 15 and was a members of the www.d3baseball.com Team of the Week on April 16. Brendan played in and started all 40 games and batted a team-high .410 with a single-season school-record 66 runs scored. He led the team in at-bats (161), runs scored, base hits (61), doubles (13), homers (4) and stolen bases (20 in 22 attempts). He also was perfect in the field (1.000). He helped BW to tie the single-season school-record for wins with 27 and compile a 27-13 overall record.

CLUBS OR ORGANIZATIONS: Brendan is a member of the BW Accounting Association (Vice Chair of the Board).

HOMETOWN & HIGH SCHOOL INFORMATION:   Brendan Toughey grew up in East Amherst, New York and graduated from St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute.  He played four years of baseball and golf. He earned two varsity letters in baseball and three in golf.

Brendan was nominated for the All-Western New York Scholar-Athlete in baseball and golf as a senior.  He was co-captain in baseball and qualified for the New York State High School Golf Championship as a senior. Brendan was a finalist for St. Joseph's Senior-of-the-Year. Statistically in baseball, Brendan hit .370 with an on-base percentage of .650 and was 26-for-26 in stolen bases. He led his team in runs scored and OBP for two years.
