Redovian Shuts Down ONU, 7-1, in Game Two

ADA, OHIO – Senior right-hander David Redovian (Fairlawn/ Copley) scattered six hits and allowed just one unearned run to lead the Baldwin Wallace University baseball team to a 7-1 win at Ohio Northern University today (Sunday, April 21, 2013) in the second game of an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader at Herb Strayer Field in Ada.  ONU won the first game, 5-4 in eight innings.  You can read about that game here.

The doubleheader split ups BW to 21-8 overall and 10-4 in the OAC, and leaves the Yellow Jackets one game behind conference leader Marietta College.  ONU falls to 15-16 overall and 6-8 in the OAC.

Redovian struck out four batters and walked just one to improve to 4-0 this season.

Senior CAPITAL ONE Academic All-American left fielder Brendan Toughey (East Amherst, N.Y./ St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute), who was 2-for-4 at the plate, scored his 50th and 51st runs of the season, leaving him two shy of tying his own school single-season record of 53, set last season. He also has 138 career runs, five short of tying former All-OAC and Academic All-American center fielder Cody Kidd's (2006-09) career record.

Sophomore designated hitter Alex Green (Pickerington/ North) and sophomore shortstop Eric Murphy (Brook Park/ Midpark) led off the fourth inning with back-to-back singles.  Freshman second baseman Mark Zimmerman (Akron/ Green) moved both runners up with a sacrifice bunt before freshman right fielder Jerry Scholle (Hinckley/ Medina Highland) brought them in with a single and stake the Yellow Jackets to a 2-0 lead.

BW tacked on a run in the fifth frame when Green's run batted-in ground out scored Toughey, who led off the inning with a single.

ONU scored its lone run of the game in the sixth inning after sophomore Dan Belliveau's single scored senior Tom Walton, who reached base on an error.

The Yellow Jackets tacked on four insurance runs in the seventh, courtesy of a two-run single by Green and two-run double by Zimmerman.

Green led BW at the plate by going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run scored and Scholle was 2-for-3 with two RBI.

BW returns to action Tuesday, April 23 when it travels to North Canton to play Division II Malone University in a non-league doubleheader at Thurman Munson Stadium at 11 a.m.  BW also hosts traditional rival Hiram College on Wednesday, April 24 at 4 p.m. on Seniors' Day prior to a road doubleheader at Marietta next Saturday.
