BEREA, OHIO – The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team dropped a non-conference game to The College of Wooster, 9-3, at Heritage Field

The Yellow Jackets dropped to 16-5 overall and snapped their four-game winning streak.  Wooster improved to 15-7.

Wooster took a 3-0 lead after scoring on run in the top of the first inning and two more in the second.

BW scored a run in the bottom of the second and another in the third on a run batted-in double by freshman second baseman Mark Zimmerman (Akron/Green) and RBI ground out by sophomore second-team All-Ohio Athletic Conference first baseman Kyle Chontos (Pickerington/North).

The Scots extended their lead to 5-2 in the fourth when junior Eddie Reese drew a bases loaded walk and sophomore John McLain lofted a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring junior Jarrod Mancine, who also walked.

In the BW fifth, senior center fielder Nolan Neuschaefer (Elyria) led off the inning with his team-high fifth and school career-record 17th triple and scored on a single by senior CAPITAL ONE Academic All-American and All-OAC left fielder Brendan Toughey (East Amherst, N.Y./ t. Joseph's Collegiate Institute).  Wooster reliever Jon Rothman, who had two runners in scoring position with no outs, worked out of a jam to protect a 5-3 lead.

McLain gave the Scots their sixth run with another sacrifice fly in the sixth, and Wooster tacked on three more insurance runs in the ninth.

At the plate, Toughey was 2-for-3 with one RBI and junior third baseman Brad Gugliotta (Twinsburg) went 2-for-4 with one run scored.

On the mound, freshman Alex Albright (North Royalton) started, pitched three innings and allowed five runs (four earned) on seven hits and struck out five and walked three, but suffered the loss to fall to 0-1.  Five Yellow Jacket relievers combined to pitch the final six innings.

BW is back in action tomorrow, Wednesday, April 10 when it travels to Columbus to play OAC rival Capital University in a doubleheader at 1:00 p.m. BW is currently tied for first place in the OAC with two-time NCAA defending champion Marietta College, both with 5-1 league marks.
