BEREA, OHIO -- Baldwin Wallace University senior leftfielder Brendan Toughey (East Amherst, N.Y./ St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute) was selected Ohio Athletic Conference hitter of the week for his performance on the diamond in a doubleheader Sunday against Wabash (Ind.) College.
Toughey, a CAPITAL ONE Academic All-American, batted .667 and led the Yellow Jackets to a doubleheader sweep of Wabash in Franklin, Kentucky. The two wins ran BW's seasonal mark to 5-0 for the first time under third-year head coach Brian Harrison.
Toughey had six hits in nine at-bats, including a pair of doubles and a home run, drove in four runs, scored four more, and stole a base. His effort included a 4-for-4 first game with four runs scored, a double, homer, stolen base and four RBI in an 11-10 win. In the nightcap, Toughey was 2-for-5 with two runs scored as the Yellow Jackets won, 6-3.
To date, Toughey is batting a team-leading .591 (13-of-22) with 11 runs scored, three doubles, a homer, six RBI, a steal and a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage. He also has an .864 slugging average and .643 on-base percentage.
In addition to earning CAPITAL ONE Academic All-America honors last spring, Toughey, who carries a 3.94 grade average in BW's 3:2 Master's of Accounting Program, was named All-OAC, third-team All-Mideast Region, Academic All-OAC and first-team CAPITAL ONE Academic All-District 7.
The Yellow Jacket baseball team returns to action this Sunday, March 10 when they face the College of Mount St. Joseph in its first game on the Annual Spring Break Trip to the Snowbird Baseball Classic in Port Charlotte, Florida. The first pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. BW plays seven games in seven days in the Sunshine State.
