BW Baseball Team Falls to Marietta in Game One

MARIETTA, OHIO – The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team fell to Ohio Athletic Conference rival Marietta College, 6-0, in the first game of an OAC doubleheader at Don Schaly Stadium.  Marietta and BW entered today's twinbill in first and second place, respectively, in the conference standings.

The loss drops BW to 23-9 overall and 10-5 in the OAC. Marietta improves 23-8 overall and 12-3 in the OAC.

The Pioneers gained a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning with a solo home run. Marietta increased its lead to 4-0 with two runs in the third inning and one more in the fifth inning. The Pioneers added two runs in the sixth inning to extend their lead to 6-0.

At the plate, junior catcher Chaz McGrain (Olmsted Falls), sophomore shortstop Eric Murphy (Brook Park/ Midpark), senior All-OAC center fielder Nolan Neuschaefer (Elyria) and freshman second baseman Mark Zimmerman (Akron/ Green) each contributed one hit for the Yellow Jackets.

On the mound, senior All-OAC and All-Mideast Region right-hander Pat Havens (Twinsburg) started his team-high-tying 10th game this season and pitched five and two-thirds innings, allowed 10 hits and six runs (all earned), struck out two and issued one walk, and fell to 7-3 this season.  Junior right-hander Dylan Fodor (Twinsburg) recorded the last out in relief.

Following its doubleheader at Marietta, the BW diamondmen are back in action tomorrow when they travel to Greensburg, Pennsylvania to play a non-conference twinbill against Pitt-Greensburg. The first game starts at 12:00 noon. BW also is in action Tuesday, April 30 when it travels to University Circle to play cross-town and non-league rival Case Western Reserve University in a doubleheader. The first game begins at 1:00 p.m. BW ends its season on Saturday, May 4 with an OAC twinbill at Otterbein University at 1:00 p.m.
