BW Baseball Team Swept by Marietta in Game Two

MARIETTA, OHIO – The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team was swept in an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader by rival and first place Marietta College, 6-0 and 10-1, today (Saturday, April 27, 2013) at Don Schaly Stadium.  Marietta and BW entered today's twinbill in first and second place in the conference standings. 

Marietta won the first game, 6-0. 

With its losses, BW falls to 23-10 overall and 10-6 in the OAC with two league games remaining next Saturday, May 4 at Otterbein University and four other non-leagues contests. With its win, Marietta is 24-8 overall and 13-3 in the OAC and can clinch the regular season title and a home field advantage in the OAC Tournament with one win versus Wilmington College next Friday, May 3.

The Pioneers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning that was started by a leadoff double. In the fourth inning, Marietta added three runs on one hit to extend its lead to 4-0.

Senior All-OAC center fielder Nolan Neuschaefer (Elyria) gave the Yellow Jackets their only run when he homered to left center field to leadoff the sixth inning.

The Pioneers extended their lead to 6-1 after adding two runs on one hit in the sixth inning. Marietta added three more runs in the seventh inning and one run in the eighth inning on a solo home run.

At the plate, Neuschaefer led the offense with supplying the only run of the game with his second home run of the season. Four other BW batters each contributed a base hit. 

On the mound, senior right-hander David Redovian (Fairlawn/Copley) started his third game this season and suffered his first loss to fall to 4-1 overall. He pitched six innings, allowed four hits and six runs (three earned), struck out five and issued two walks. Freshman right-hander Brandon Cichocki (Walled Lake, Mich./Central) pitched one inning allowing three run (none earned) on two hits, one walk and struck out one batter. Junior righty Dylan Fodor (Twinsburg) pitched the final inning and allowed one run (earned) and one hit.

The BW diamondmen are back in action on tomorrow, Sunday, April 28 when they travel to Greensburg, Pennsylvania to play a non-conference twinbill versus Pitt-Greensburg. The first game starts at 12:00 noon. BW also is in action on Tuesday, April 30 when it travels to University Circle to play cross-town and non-league rival Case Western Reserve University in a doubleheader. The first game begins at 1:00 p.m. BW ends its season on Saturday, May 4 with an OAC twinbill at Otterbein University at 1:00 p.m.

A year ago, the BW baseball team set a school record with 27 victories and a 27-13 overall record.
