PORT CHARLOTTE, FLA. – The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team lost to Montclair State (N.J.) University, 6-3, today (Tuesday, March 12, 2013) on the third day of its annual Spring Break trip at the Snowbird Baseball Classic in Port Charlotte, Fla.

Montclair State scored two runs in the first inning, one in the second, and two in the third to grab an early 5-0 lead.
The Yellow Jackets answered back by scoring a run in the top of the fifth inning. After an out sophomore All-Ohio Athletic Conference designated hitter Zach Fertser (Olmsted Falls) was hit by a pitch, advanced to second base on a wild pitch, went to third on a fielder's choice and scored when senior All-OAC center fielder Nolan Neuschaefer (Elyria) singled.
The Red Hawks answered with a run of their own in the bottom half of the fifth to rebuild their five-run cushion at 6-1.
The Yellow Jackets began to make the game interesting by scoring a run in the sixth to make it 6-2. With one out, sophomore All-OAC first baseman Kyle Chontos (Pickerington/ North) was hit by a pitch, stole second base and advanced to third when sophomore RF Alex Green (Pickerington/ North) singled. BW scored again in the eighth to make it 6-3. With one out, Chontos walked and advanced to second base on a wild pitch. After the second out, Taylor singled to move hi to third base. He scored one batter later when Ferster singled, and Taylor advanced to third. After Ferster stole second to give BW two runners in scoring position, the Montclair State reliever was able to end the last serious Yellow Jacket threat.

On the mound, junior righthander Cory Waite (Willoughby/ South) started and threw two and two-third innings and allowed five runs (four earned) on seven hits. Junior righty Dylan Fodor (Twinsburg) completed the third inning without allowing a run.

In addition to Fodor, freshman Matt Wittels (Lyndhurst/ Brush), sophomore Anthony Alioto (Mayfield) and freshman Brandon Cichocki (Walled Lake, Mich./ Central) combined to throw the final five innings. The trio surrendered just one run (earned) and struck out five Red Hawk batters.
