Baseball Team Falls to Ohio Wesleyan

PORT CHARLOTTE, FLORIDA – The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team lost to Ohio Wesleyan University, 5-2, today (Monday, March 11, 2013) on the second day of its annual Spring Break trip at the Snowbird Baseball Classic. The loss snapped a six-game winning streak for the Yellow Jackets.

With its loss, BW is now 6-1 overall. The Battling Bishops improved to 1-0 this season.
Ohio Wesleyan scored two runs in each of the first two innings to grab a 4-0 lead.
The Yellow Jackets answered by scoring a run in the fifth inning to close the gap to 4-1. SeniorCAPITAL ONE Academic All-American left fielder Brendan Toughey (East Amherst, N.Y./ St. Josephs Collegiate Institute) led off with a double. Junior third baseman Brad Gugliotta (Twinsburg) walked but was caught stealing for the first out. On the play on Gugliotta, Toughey advanced to third. He would then score via an OWU wild pitch.
The Battling Bishops extended their lead to 5-1 with a run in the seventh.
BW was able to push one run across in the eighth inning to close the gap and end the scoring. Gugliotta walked, advanced to second on a single by sophomore shortstop Eric Murphy (Brook Park/ Middleburg Heights Midpark), to third on a fly out and scored on a fielder's choice.
Junior righthander Jon Capadona (North Royalton) started on the mound and threw the first two innings. He allowed four base hits and four runs (three earned), struck out three and walked one Battling Bishop. He fell to 1-1 this season. In relief, senior righty Dave Redovian (Fairlawn/ Copley) threw four and one-third innings and allowed five hits and one run (unearned) and struck out two and walked two. Junior Dylan Fodor (Twinsburg) and freshman Tom Loeffler (Shaker Heights) combined to throw the final two and two-thirds innings and allowed two hits, no runs and struck out one batter.  

At the plate, the Yellow Jackets were led by junior catcher Joe Hiller (Twinsburg), who went two-for-four. In addition, Gugliotta recorded four walks in five at-bats and also led BW defensively with four assists.

BW returns to action tomorrow, March 12, 2013, when it plays Montclair State (N.J.) University in a single, nine-inning game at 11:00 a.m. The Yellow Jackets are playing seven varsity and two junior varsity games in seven days in the Sunshine State.
