BEREA, OHIO – CAPITAL ONE Academic All-American left fielder Brendan Toughey (East Amherst, N.Y./ St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute) garnered hitter of the honorable mention from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association for his efforts during the Week of April 8-14. The honor comes three days after Toughey was named Ohio Athletic Conference hitter of the week.
Toughey batted .563 (9-for-16), scored 10 runs and had two doubles, two triples, two home runs, eight runs batted-in and a stolen base in five Yellow Jacket games (3-2 record). He had a .619 on-base average and a 1.313 slugging average. He walked twice, was hit-by-pitch twice and had a sacrifice fly. Toughey also had seven chances in the field and did not commit an error.
For the season, Toughey is batting .441 (45-for-102) with 46 runs scored, nine doubles, four triples, three homers, 24 RBI and nine steals in 11 attempts. He has a .516 on-base average and a .696 slugging average.
In addition, Toughey carries a 3.94 grade point average in BW's 3:2 Master's of Accounting Program and will graduate on May 12. He is a two-time All-OAC, two-time Academic All-OAC and two-time CAPITAL ONE Academic All-District 7 selection.
Toughey and the Yellow Jackets currently sit in second place in the OAC standings, one game behind conference leader and two-time defending national champion Marietta College. BW next plays on Saturday, April 20 when it faces Ohio Northern University in a conference doubleheader in Ada at 1 p.m.
