WASHINGTON, Pa. – The No. 10 nationally-ranked Baldwin Wallace University baseball team fell in the first game of a non-conference doubleheader to Washington & Jefferson (Pa.) College by a final score of 10-9. In the second game, the Yellow Jackets picked up their second win of the weekend against No. 17 nationally-ranked State University of New York – Oswego by a final score of 7-6 in 10 innings at Ross Memorial Park. 

Game 1

BW (4-1) was led by senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference outfielder Vincent Capolupo (Kenmore, N.Y./St. Joseph's Collegiate) who went 1-4 with two walks and added a career-high tying four runs batted in. Senior outfielder Andrew Parker (Toledo/Toledo Central Catholic) went 2-4 in the game and scored a game-high four runs. 

Scoring Plays

• In the first inning, the Yellow Jackets got on the board first with an RBI single by senior All-OAC first baseman Alexis Castillo (Sunrise, Fla./The Sagemont School).
• Washington and Jefferson (2-1) got on the board in the bottom half of the inning with a three-run homer by Evan Sante.
• BW closed the game in the top of the second as Capolupo got his first RBI of the day on a walk.
• The Presidents responded with an RBI single from Tyler Horvat.
• The Yellow Jackets scored three runs in the fourth to regain the lead. Two errors by Washington and Jefferson scored Parker, senior Academic All-OAC utility Ryan Guggenheim (Solon) and senior outfielder Nick Stoltz (Geneva).
• In the fifth, BW added two more on a wild pitch that scored Guggenheim and an RBI by Capolupo.
• In the bottom of the fifth, the Presidents got two runs off a single by Nolan Lutz.
• In the seventh, the Yellow Jackets took a 9-6 lead off a two-run single by Capolupo.
• After the seventh inning stretch, Washington and Jefferson scored four runs to take a 10-9 lead off singles from Scout Zaas and Joe Lehner. Lutz would come around to score on a passed ball for the final run of the game.

On the Mound

• Senior left-handed pitcher Nik Baldis (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) pitched an inning and two-thirds giving up four runs on four hits and two walks.
• Senior right-handed pitcher Aidan Bennett (Naples, Fla./Barron Collier) came in relief going three and a third innings giving up two runs on two hits and two walks. Bennett also struck out four batters.
• Senior right-handed pitcher Matt Sabin (Mentor) also pitched an inning and two-thirds in relief giving up four runs, three earned, on four hits and two walks. He struck out to batters.
• Junior right-handed pitcher Gordon Seger (Rome/Grand Valley) closed out the final inning and third giving up no hits and striking out three. 

Game 2

BW (5-1) was led by Guggenheim who went 2-5 with a solo homer and he also scored two runs. Parker went 2-2 with an RBI and run scored.

Scoring Plays

• The Yellow Jackets got on the board first with three runs in the second. An RBI groundout by sophomore infielder Sean Kolenich (Parma/St. Edward) and a two-run single by junior infielder Nick Clark (Willowick/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin).
• Oswego (1-2) tied things up in the bottom half in the second. They scored first on an error and then Tim Schinto hit a two-run homer to right.
• Parker continued his hot streak with an RBI single to give BW a 4-3 lead in the third.
• In the fifth, Guggenheim extended the Yellow Jackets lead with a solo homer to left.
• In the bottom half of the inning Jelan Hamer got the Lakers back on the board with a solo homer.
• BW was able to regain a two run lead with senior catcher JT Mazula (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) scoring on an error.
• In the bottom of the eight, Oswego tied things up again with a Connor Williams two run single.
• As the game went to extras, Clark secured the Yellow Jackets victory with an RBI double that scored Capolupo.

On the Mound

• Sophomore right-handed pitcher Dylan Snyder (Stow/Archbishop Hoban) got the start going five innings and giving up four runs on six hits and striking out seven.
• Junior right-handed pitcher Kyle Maruna (Medina) came in to relieve and went two and a third innings allowing two runs on one hit and hour walks. He struck out two batters.
• Closing out the game and picking up his collegiate win was freshman right-handed pitcher Tyler Walker (Fairlawn/Copley) who went two and two thirds innings while striking out five and giving up two hits and a walk.

BW is back in action during their annual Spring Break at the Snowbird Classic in Port Charlotte, Fla. They will be taking the field on Saturday, March 4 for a doubleheader against Rhode Island College at 10:30 a.m. and then they will take on Misericordia (Pa.) University at 2:30 p.m. at Centennial Park on Field #9.
