Department of Athletics Announces 2023 Clyde Lamb Award Winners

BEREA, Ohio -- The Baldwin Wallace University Department of Athletics has announced its Clyde Lamb Award winners for the 2022-23 academic year.

The Clyde A. Lamb Awards are presented annually to 10 male and 10 female student-athletes from each of the Ohio Athletic Conference institutions. Criteria for the award includes at least two years participation in an OAC-sponsored sport, senior status, a minimum GPA of 3.00 and sportsmanlike conduct in a manner that has brought credit to the student-athlete and his or her institution.

All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC women's basketball guard Megan Hensel (Upper Sandusky) and All-American, All-OAC, Academic All-American and Academic All-OAC baseball infielder Luke Vonderhaar (New Bremen) were selected by the coaching staff as the female and male Clyde Lamb Award recipients. 

Hensel becomes the ninth women's basketball student-athlete to receive the honor and the second straight.  She closed out her final season by averaging 7.9 points per game and 6.4 rebounds per game. Hensel was second the made threes (39). She tallied 213 points, 132 rebounds, 20 assists, 20 steals, and 13 blocks. She was the OAC Player of the Week on January 2 and the BW Invitational All-Tournament Most Valuable Player.

For her career, Hensel appeared in 106 games with 56 starts.  She recorded 696 points, 427 rebounds, 77 assists, 77 steals and 31 blocks.  Hensel ranks fifth all-time in school history in free throw percentage with 81.25 percent and sixth in three pointers made with 129.  She is a two-time All-OAC honoree.

Off the court, Hensel is a three-time Academic All-OAC selection, a College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District team performer.  She was a Dean's List student, a Jacket Scholar, and a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma and Dayton C. Miller honoraries.

Vonderhaar becomes the fourth baseball student-athlete to achieve this honor.  In 36 games this season, he is batting .322 (48-of-149) with 15 doubles, five homeruns, 39 runs scored, 39 runs batted-in (RBIs), 22 walks and five stolen bases.  Vonderhaar is tied for fifth in the OAC in doubles.

For his career, Vonderhaar has appeared in 132 games and his batting .329 (164-of-498).  He has 143 RBIs, 128 runs scored, 52 walks, 38 doubles, 29 homeruns, 18 stolen bases and two triples.  Vonderhaar is the school's all-time single season leader in homeruns with 19, which he set a season ago.  He is a 2022 American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings and D3baseball.com All-American, 2022 NCAA Division III Brockport (N.Y.) Regional Tournament Most Valuable Player, 2022 OAC All-Tournament team honoree.  He is also a two-time All-OAC first-team selection.

Off the field, Vonderhaar is the 2022 NCAA Division III Elite 90 Award winner, 2022 College Sports Communicators Academic All-American, a two-time Academic All-OAC performer, Dean's List student, a Jacket Scholar, and a member of the Dayton C. Miller and Chi Alpha Sigma honoraries.
