Men's and Women's Track and Field Compete at NCAA "Last Chance" Meet

ADA, Ohio – Select members of the Baldwin Wallace University men's and women's indoor track and field team competed at NCAA "Last Chance" meet at the Polar Bear Last Chance Invite, hosted by Ohio Northern University inside the ONU Sports Center. Each student-athletes competed in order to obtain a qualifying mark to the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field National Championship meet next week.  

The Yellow Jackets individual events highlights included:

  • Senior All-OAC hurdler ShaDaryll Clark II (Brook Park / Berea-Midpark) placed second in the men's 60-meter hurdlers in a time of 8.31 seconds
  • Junior All-OAC distance runner Hope Murphy (Mogadore) finished third in the women's one-mile run in a time of 5:13.27
  • Senior David Russo (DePew, N.Y. / DePew) placed second in the men's 5,000-meter run in a time of 15:29.25

Field event highlights:

  • Sophomore All-OAC high jumper Christian Pfeiffer (Amherst) placed second in men's high jump with a height of 6' 4¾"
  • Sophomore Jackson Tupa (Medina) finished 18th in men's weight throw with a distance of 36' 10½"
  • Sophomore Emily Torres (Berea / Berea-Midpark) placed eighth in women's weight throw with a mark of 44' 6¾"
  • Sophomore Kaleu Tellas (Indianapolis, Ind. / International School of Indiana) finished seventh in men's shot put with a mark of 46' 3½"

The Yellow Jackets will now wait and see which athletes qualify for the 2023 NCAA Indoor National Championships, hosted Friday and Saturday, March 10-11 at Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Alabama.
