Murphy Garners CSC Women’s Track and Field/Cross Country Academic All-American Accolade

AUSTIN, Texas – Baldwin Wallace University women's cross country and track and field junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC distance runner Hope Murphy (Mogadore) has been named to the 2023 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-America track and field/cross country team.

Murphy, who carries a 3.98 grade point average in hospitality and tourism management and marketing, garners her first accolade as she was selected to the second team.  She becomes the 128th BW student-athlete to earn Academic All-American honors, including the third in 2022-23 and 16th women's cross country/track and field member.

In cross country this season, Murphy was a first-team All-OAC performer in cross country after placing seventh at the OAC Championships.  She placed eighth at the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional Championships and qualified for her second straight NCAA Division III Championships.

During indoor track and field, Murphy earned four All-OAC honors and was the champion in the 800-meter run, one-mile run and a member of the Distance Medley Relay team.  She qualified for her second straight NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships and earned her first indoor All-American honor with a sixth-place finish in the 800-meter 

In outdoor track and field, Murphy earned four All-OAC honors and was the champion in the 800-meter run and 1500-meter runs.  She qualified for her third NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships and placed 13th in the 1500-meter run. 

For her career, Murphy is a 20-time All-OAC performer (two in cross country and nine each in indoor and outdoor track and field), 11-time OAC Champion (one cross country and five each in indoor and outdoor track and field) and eight-time OAC Runner of the Week Award winner (two cross country, two indoor track and field and four outdoor track and field).  She was the 2023 OAC Julie Zajac Indoor Distance Runner of the Year, 2022 OAC Cross Country Runner of the Year, 2022 OAC Dave Lehman Outstanding Outdoor Distance Athlete of the Year and 2021 OAC Co-Julie Zajac Indoor Distance Runner of the Year.

Off the course and the track, Murphy is a four-time Academic All-OAC selection (two each in cross country and track and field) and 2022 United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic selection.  She is a Dean's List student, Jacket Scholar, and a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society.  Murphy is also the treasurer of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Treasurer and an engagement student-assistant for the Office of Philanthropy & Alumni Engagement.
