Department of Athletics Announces 2023 Outstanding Senior Award Winners

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University Department of Athletics has announced its 2023 Most Outstanding Senior Athlete Award winners.

The Kenneth Steingass Most Outstanding Male Athlete has been awarded since 1948-49 while the Marcia French Most Outstanding Female Athlete was first awarded in 1981-82. Both are presented annually to a deserving senior which is voted on by the coaches. 

All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC women's basketball guard Megan Hensel (Upper Sandusky) and All-American, All-OAC and Academic All-OAC men's lacrosse defender Neil Randall (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Palos Verdes) were selected as the Marcia French and Kenneth Steingass Most Outstanding Senior Athlete Award winners.

Hensel becomes the 11th women's basketball student-athlete to receive the honor and the second straight.  She closed out her final season by averaging 7.9 points per game and 6.4 rebounds per game. Hensel was second in made threes (39). She tallied 213 points, 132 rebounds, 20 assists, 20 steals, and 13 blocks. She was the OAC Player of the Week on January 2 and the BW Invitational All-Tournament Most Valuable Player.

For her career, Hensel appeared in 106 games with 56 starts.  She recorded 696 points, 427 rebounds, 77 assists, 77 steals and 31 blocks.  Hensel ranks fifth all-time in school history in free throw percentage with 81.25 percent and sixth in three pointers made with 129.  She is a two-time All-OAC honoree.

Off the court, Hensel is a three-time Academic All-OAC selection, a College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District team performer.  She was a Dean's List student, a Jacket Scholar, and a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma and Dayton C. Miller honoraries.

Randall becomes the first men's lacrosse student-athlete to be honored.  This season, he has appeared and started in all 17 games.  He leads the OAC in caused turnovers with 43 and is second on the team with 46 ground balls.

For his career, Randall has appeared in 54 games with 52 starts.  He ranks second all-time in caused turnovers with 137, fifth in ground balls with 155 and 19th in faceoffs with 22.  Randall has scored four goals and added two assists for six points.  He was a 2022 United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association All-American, OAC Defensive Player of the Year and an Intercollegiate Men's Lacrosse Coaches Association All-Region performer.  He is a two-time All-OAC first-team selection.

Off the field, Randall is a two-time Academic All-OAC selection, Dean's List student, Jacket Scholar and a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society.
