No. 3 Baseball Falls to Allegheny (Pa.)

  • BEREA, Ohio – The No. 3 nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University baseball team fell to Allegheny (Pa.) College in a non-conference game by a final score of 7-4 on the Fisher Field. 

BW (13-3) was led by senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference outfielder Vincent Capolupo (Kenmore, N.Y./Saint Joseph's Collegiate) who went 3-for-4 with a run batted in (RBI). Senior Academic All-OAC utility Ryan Guggenheim (Solon) went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.

Scoring Plays

  • Alejandro Samayoa got Allegheny (4-8) on the board with two-run double to left field in the second inning.
  • Sullivan Schueltz extended the Gators lead in the fourth inning with a solo homer to left field.
  • The Yellow Jackets responded in the bottom half of the fourth with an RBI single from senior catcher Mark Mohnickey Jr. (North Ridgeville/St. Edward).
  • BW cut Allegheny's lead to 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI single from Guggenheim.
  • The Gators got a run back in the sixth with an RBI off a fielder's choice from Schueltz.
  • Capolupo made it a one run game again with an RBI single in the sixth.
  • Allegheny picked up three runs in the eight with two runs scoring off a wild pitch and another run scoring on an error.
  • In the ninth, the Yellow Jackets got one run home on a dropped third strike that rolled to the backstop.

On The Mound

  • Senior left-handed pitcher Nik Baldis (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) got the start and picked up the loss going six innings and allowing four runs, three earned with nine strikeouts.
  • Senior right-handed pitcher Garrett Miller (McMurray, Pa.) went one inning in relief allowing a hit and striking out a pair.
  • Junior right-handed pitcher Gordon Seger (Rome/Grand Valley) didn't record an out and allowed three runs, one earned, on a hit and a walk.
  • Senior right-handed pitcher Aidan Bennett (Naples, Fla./Barron Collier) went an inning not allowing a base runner and striking out a pair.
  • Sophomore right-handed pitcher Dylan Snyder (Stow/Archbishop Hoban) pitched the ninth and allowed one hit and struck out a batter.
