Castillo and Gabe Tabbed OAC Baseball Players of the Week

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference first basemen Alexis Castillo (Sunrise, Fla./The Sagemont School) and senior All-OAC right-handed pitcher Dawson Gabe (Lawrence, Ind.) of the No. 10 nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University baseball team were named OAC Hitter of the Week and OAC Pitcher of the week.

Castillo was named OAC Hitter of the Week for the first time in his career after going 10-15 in three games this weekend. Castillo started all three games while hitting .667 with one double. He knocked in four RBIs and scored a run. He led BW in batting average, hits and on-base percentage (.667).

In his second season with the Yellow Jackets, Castillo has appeared in 43 games, and has 74 hits including 20 extra-base hits. He has hit 14 doubles and six home runs. Castillo has driven in 50 runs and scored 39. For his career, he is a .409 hitter with a .454 on-base percentage and a .586 slugging percentage.

Gabe was named the OAC Pitcher of the week for the first time in his career. Gabe started the first game of the season as the Yellow Jackets combined for eight-no hit innings. Gabe pitched the six innings, allowing just one walk and striking out eight in an 11-0 eight inning victory. He is now 1-0 on the year.

In his career, Gabe has appeared in 28 games and started 24 of those games. He has a 6-6 record with a 3.74 earned run average. He has logged 132. 1 innings giving up 118 hits and allowing 55 earned runs. He had walked 75 batters while striking out 170 batters. He has a career 11.56 strikeouts per nine innings.

The Yellow Jackets opened the season with a three-game sweep of Centre (Ky.) College. They return to the field on Saturday, February 25 when they take on State University of New York – Oswego State at 2:30 p.m. at Ross Memorial Park on the campus of Washington & Jefferson (Pa.) College in Washington, Pa.
