Baseball Jumps Up One Spot in Latest D3baseball.com Top 25 Poll

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Baldwin Wallace University baseball has climbed up one spot in the latest D3baseball.com national top 25 poll. The Yellow Jackets have climbed up to No. 4 in the latest poll.

BW moved into No. 4 after received 556 points, including one first place vote.

The Yellow Jackets started out the week with a snowy, non-conference victory over Hiram College by a final score of 8-5. BW used a three run seventh inning to secure the victory with Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference first baseman Alexis Castillo (Sunrise, Fla./The Sagemont School) hitting a two-run homer to center.

Two days later, the Yellow Jackets welcomed Heidelberg University to Fisher Field and picked up a sweep with a 11-0 victory in game 1 and a 7-3 win in game 2. Senior left-handed pitcher Nik Baldis (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) threw a complete game shutout in game 1 allowing five hits, a walk and striking out nine batters. Junior infielder Nick Clark (Willowick/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) sparked the offense with a grand slam in the third inning.

In game 2, Clark added two more RBIs in the 7-3 victory with senior All-OAC right-handed pitcher Dawson Gabe (Lawrence, Ind.) going seven and two-thirds allowing three runs on seven hits and walks while striking out 11.

BW completed the perfect 5-0 week with a sweep over Otterbein. An offensive surge with seven Yellow Jackets getting two or more RBIs powered them to a 17-9 victory in game 1. Senior catcher JT Mazula (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) led the charge with three RBIs. Additionally, every member of the starting lineup recorded a hit for just the second time this season.

To close out the week, sophomore right-handed pitcher Kade Swisher (Berea/Berea-Midpark) picked up a complete game shutout in his first career start. Swisher led the way for the BW to pick up a 3-0 victory as he went the distance allowing six hits, two walks and striking out seven batters.

The Yellow Jackets are joined on the poll by OAC foe Marietta College who moved up three spots and currently at No. 14.

BW returns to the diamond on Wednesday, April 26th in Springfield for a road non-conference game against Wittenberg University at the Carleton Davidson Stadium with first pitch coming at 6:00 p.m.
