No. 4 Baseball Takes Down Hiram in Snowy Conditions

BEREA, Ohio – The No. 4 nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University baseball team picked up a non-conference victory over Hiram as flakes fell at the Fisher Field by a final score of 8-5.

BW (23-5) was led by junior infielder Nick Clark (Willowick/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) who went 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs batted in (RBIs). Senior first baseman Alexis Castillo (Sunrise, Fla./The Sagemont School) went 2-for-4 at the plate and hit a home run in the second consecutive game as he drove in two RBIs.

Scoring Plays

  • Hiram (12-15) got on the board first with an RBI single from sophomore outfielder Kobe Hunter and an RBI fielder's choice from freshman utility Logan Gallentine.
  • The Yellow Jackets responded with four runs in the third with RBI singles from senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference outfielder Vincent Capolupo (Kenmore, N.Y./Saint Joseph's Collegiate) and senior All-American infielder Luke Vonderhaar (New Breman). Sophomore infielder Sean Kolenich (Parma/St. Edward) added an RBI double and Clark knocked in one on a sacrifice fly.
  • The Terriers tied things up in the sixth scoring off a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly from Gallentine.
  • In the bottom half of the inning, senior catcher DJ Doria (Naples, Fla./Barron Collier) gave BW the lead again with a sacrifice fly.
  • The Yellow Jackets extended the lead in the seventh with an RBI single from Clark and a two-run homer from Castillo.
  • Hiram got one run back in the eighth after scoring on a wild pitch to make it an 8-5 game.

On the Mound

  • Senior right-handed pitcher Clay Anderson (Broadview Heights/Trinity) picked up the start going four innings and allowing two runs on two hits and striking out four.
  • Senior right-handed pitcher Aidan Bennett (Naples, Fla./Barron Collier) went one and third innings in relief and allowed two runs and struck out a pair.
  • Junior right-handed pitcher Drew Schaly (Ashland) walked the lone batter he faced.
  • Junior right-handed pitcher Dan Petrouskie (Seaford, N.Y./IMG Academy) picked up his win at BW after pitching two and two-third innings and allowing a run and striking out four.
  • Freshman left-handed pitcher Brit Kostura (Tequesta, Fla./Jupiter Christian School) pitched a perfect ninth to pick up his first career save.
