No. 6 Baseball Picks Up Walk Off Victory Over Babson (Mass.)

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – The No. 6 nationally-ranked Baldwin Wallace University baseball team picked up a walk off victory over Babson (Mass.) College at Centennial Park on Field #10 at the Snowbird Classic. 

BW (10-2) was led by senior All-American first baseman Luke Vonderhaar (New Breman) who went 3-3 with one run batted in (RBI) and two runs scored. Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference outfielder Vincent Capolupo (Kenmore, N.Y./Saint Joseph's Collegiate) went 2-5 with the walk off double as he drove in two RBIs. Freshman right-handed pitcher Tyler Walker (Fairlawn/Copley) went six scoreless innings and struck out seven. 

Scoring Plays

  • Vonderhaar got the Yellow Jackets on the board in the second inning with a leadoff home run to dead center.
  • BW extended their lead in the fourth with an RBI single by senior outfielder Andrew Parker (Toledo/Toledo Central Catholic) that scored Vonderhaar from second.
  • Babson (1-3) got on the board in the seventh off a passed ball.
  • The Yellow Jackets responded in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI single from Capolupo.
  • The Beavers responded in the top of the eighth with RBI singles from senior outfielder Jackson Kelley and senior infielder Michael Cook to tie things up at 3-3.
  • In the bottom of the ninth, Capolupo sent the BW fans home happy with a walk off double off the left center field fence.

On the Mound

  • Walker picked up his second start of the Snowbird Classic. He went six scoreless innings allowing just four hits while striking out seven.
  • Junior right-handed pitcher Gordon Seger (Rome/Grand Valley) pitched an inning in relief giving up two runs, one earned, on a hit and a walk. He also struck out a batter.
  • Senior right-handed pitcher Garrett Miller (McMurray, Pa.) went a third of an inning and allowed a run on two hits.
  • Senior right-handed pitcher Matt Sabin (Mentor) took over to finish the eighth inning, going two-thirds of an inning giving up a hit.
  • Sophomore right-handed pitcher Kade Swisher (Berea/Berea-Midpark) pitched the ninth allowing just one base runner and picking up the win.
