No. 4 Baseball Drops Non-Conference Game to No. 13 Denison

BEREA, Ohio – The No. 4 nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University baseball team dropped their final home non-conference game to No. 13 nationally ranked Denison University by a final score of 8-4 on the Fisher Field. 

BW (29-7) was led by senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference outfielder Vincent Capolupo (Kenmore, N.Y./Saint Joseph's Collegiate) who went 3-for-5 at the plate with a run scored and run batted in (RBI). Jun for infielder Nick Clark (Willowick/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) went 1-for-4 at the dish with an RBI. 

Scoring Plays

  • The Yellow Jackets jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first with an RBI infield single from Clark.
  • Denison (28-7) got on the board in the second with a two-run double to left center from senior infielder Josh Bohn.
  • The Big Red added another run, off a single from sophomore utility Matt McClement.
  • The last run for the second came off a throwing error and made it 4-1.
  • Denison got back on the board in the third inning off RBI singles from junior infielder Owen Wilson and freshman infielder Alex Vasquez
  • The final runs for Denison came from back-to-back homers from senior infielder Ari Fierer and junior outfielder Jake Welsch and made it an 8-1 lead for the Big Red.
  • Senior catcher JT Mazula (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) got BW back on the board in the ninth with a two-run double in the left field gap.
  • Capolupo drove in the final run of the game with a single past the shortstop to make it a 8-4 game.

On the Mound

  • Sophomore right-handed pitcher Kade Swisher (Berea/Berea-Midpark) got the start and went two and two-thirds innings allowing six runs, five earned, on eight hits and two walks.
  • Senior right-handed pitcher Matt Sabin (Mentor) went four and a third innings in relief allowing two runs on two hits and two hits while striking out two batters.
  • Senior right-handed pitcher Garret McLeod (Medina) went one inning in relief and struck out a batter.
  • Senior right-handed pitcher Clay Anderson (Broadview Heights/Trinity) pitched the final inning and allowed a walk while striking out a pair.
