Murphy Breaks Five Records; Women's Track and Field Travel to North Canton For Walsh Tune-Up

NORTH CANTON, Ohio. - Junior All-American distance runner Hope Murphy (Mogadore) breaks five records as the Baldwin Wallace University women's outdoor track and field team competed at the Walsh Tune-Up on Larry Staudt Field. The meet was unscored. 

The Yellow Jackets individual events highlights included:

  • Murphy broke the 16-year-old stadium record time of 2:18.28 and the 11-year-old Walsh Tune-Up meet record time of 2:18.70 with her own time of 2:17.04 in the 800-meter run. She also went on to win the 1500-meter run in a time of 4:41.89 but also breaking NCAA Division II Walsh University's 36-year-old school record (4:46.70), 16-year-old stadium record (4:43.36) and 11-year-old Walsh Tune-Up meet record (4:47.24). 
  • Sophomore Kenni Voytek (Valley View / Cuyahoga Heights) placed ninth in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 1:12.65 and 16th place in the women's 100-meter hurdles in a time of 17.38 seconds 
  • Freshman Jessica Klonowski (Parma / Holy Name) placed 15th in the 100-meter dash in a time of 13.37 seconds
  • Freshman Julia Hurd (Avon Lake) placed 15th in the 200-meter dash in a time of 27.30 seconds

Field events highlighted: 

  • Voytek placed sixth in the high jump with a height of 4' 6"

On the relay side:

  • The 4x100-meter relay squad of Hurd, freshman Morgan Aloi (Sylvania / Sylvania Northview), freshman Olivia Bradley (Hilliard / Hilliard Davidson), and sophomore All-OAC Abby Collier (Dublin / Coffman) placed fourth in a time of 50.36 seconds

The Yellow Jackets are back in action tomorrow, Friday, April 28 when they travel to Ashland University for the two-day Ashland Alumni Open inside the Dwight Schar Athletic Complex.
