Murphy Breaks School Record; Women's Indoor Track and Field Takes Fourth at Ed Finnegan Greater Cleveland Colleges Invitational

CLEVELAND - Junior All-American distance runner Hope Murphy (Mogadore) breaks school record as the Baldwin Wallace University women's indoor track and field finished fourth with 121 points at the Ed Finnegan Greater Cleveland Colleges Invitational, hosted by Case Western Reserve in Veale Center Fieldhouse.

 The Yellow Jackets individual events highlights included:

  • Murphy won the 800-meter run in a time of 2:09.65, breaking the three-year old school record time of 2:13.65. She also won the 3,000-meter run in a time of 11:02.63
  • Sophomore Ellie Burns (Louisville,Ky. / Assumption) won the 5,000-meter run in a time of 20:51.59
  • Sophomore Abby Collier (Dublin / Coffman) won the 200-meter dash in a time of 26.06 seconds
  • Freshman Morgan Aloi (Sylvania / Sylvania Northview) placed seventh in the 400-meter dash in a time of 1:05.88
  • Freshman Megan Hughes (Oregon/ Clay) finished second in the 500-meter run in a time of 1:26.58
  • Freshman Julia Hurd (Avon Lake) placed third in the 60-meter dash in a time of 8.28 seconds
  • Junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference runner Cassie Kolonchuk (Canal Winchester) finished fourth in the 1,000 meter run in a time of 3:07.44
  • Senior Maddie Miller (Medina) finished fifth in the one-mile run in a time of 5:30.69

Field events highlighted:

  • Senior Elizabeth Schultz (North Olmsted) the OAC Field Athlete of the Week, won the weight throw with a mark of 49' 7"
  • Senior All-OAC Abby Rodriguez (Grandview, Wash. / Prosser) finished fifth in shot put with a distance of 36' 3"
  • Sophomore Grace Beil (Boardman) placed sixth in long jump with a distance of 14' 7¾"

On the relay side:

  • The 4x400 relay squad of Murphy, freshman Kate Plecko (Rootstown), Collier and Aloi won in a time of 4:17.16
  • The 2x400 relay team of Hurd, freshman Olivia Bradley (Hilliard / Hilliard Davidson), Aloi and Collier won in a time of 1:49.69

The Yellow Jackets are back in action when it hosts the two-day Ohio Athletic Conference Indoor Championships on Saturday, February 24-25, on the Harrison Dillard Track inside the Lou Higgins Center.
