Women's Indoor Track and Field Place Third at Hosted Dr. Taraschke Team Challenge

BEREA, Ohio - The Baldwin Wallace University women's indoor track and field team host the first home meet of the season, the Dr. William Taraschke Team Challenge on the Harrison Dillard Track inside the Lou Higgins Center. 

BW placed third out of six participating teams with 64 points. University of Mount Union won the meet with 81.5 points.

The Yellow Jackets individual events highlights included:

  • Junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference distance runner Hope Murphy (Mogadore) won the 1-mile run in a time of 5:11.87 and won in the 800-meter run in a meet record time of 2:16.92
  • Sophomore Jensen Wolfe (Somerset / Sheridan) won the 5000-meter run in a time of 19:57.83
  • Junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference runner Cassie Kolonchuk (Canal Winchester) finished fifth in the 3000-meter run in a time of 11:14.48
  • Sophomore Kenni Voytek (Valley View / Cuyahoga Heights) placed sixth in the 400-meter in a time of 1:07.81 and eighth in the 55-meter hurdles in a time of 9.85 seconds
  • Freshmen Julia Hurd (Avon Lake) finished fourth in the 55-meter run in a time of 7.81 seconds and fifth in the 200-meter dash in a time of 28.01 seconds

Field events highlighted:

  • Senior Elizabeth Schultz (North Olmsted) placed third in weight throw with a meet record mark of 48' 4½"
  • Junior Selena Shelley (Mentor) finished third in shot put with a distance of 38' 5½"
  • Sophomore Abby Lorincz (Avon) placed seventh in the long jump with a distance of 15' 1½" and third in triple jump with a mark of 32' 5"

On the relay side:

  • The 4x400 meter relay squad of freshman Katie Plecko (Rootstown), sophomore Abby Collier (Dublin / Coffman), freshman Morgan Aloi (Sylvania / Sylvania Northview) and Murphy won in a time of 4:18.80

BW returns to the track on Saturday, February 4 when it travels to Angola, Indiana to compete in the Dick Gollnick Invitational, hosted by Trine University in Keith E. Busse inside Steel Dynamics Athletic and Recreation Center
