Buckhannon Receives Fifth Career OAC Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week Honor

WESTERVILLE, Ohio - Baldwin Wallace University women's track and field senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference thrower Brooke Buckhannon (Collins / Western Reserve) have been named OAC Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week for fifth time in her career and for the second time this season. 

Buckhannon earns her fifth weekly honor after winning the hammer throw and shot put events at the Sparky Adams Invitational Saturday morning after coming back Friday as she traveled to the Jesse Owens Classic at The Ohio State University where she finished seventh in hammer throw. On Friday, Buckhannon traveled to the Jesse Owens Classic at The Ohio State University. She placed finished seventh in hammer throw with a mark of 179' 8". On Saturday, Buckhannon traveled back to Berea to compete in the 53rd Sparky Adams Invitational, where she helped the Yellow Jackets finish as runners up. She won the hammer throw with a mark of 176' 9" and won the shot put with a distance of 41' 1¾". 

Buckhannon is currently ranked fifth in the nation for hammer throw her performance at Jesse Owens and is ranked #48 in shot put. In the OAC, she is ranked first in shot put and hammer. 

For her career, Buckhannon has a career-best hammer throw of 182' 10" at the 2021 Harrison Dillard Twilight. She has earned 15 All-OAC honors and awarded The Ohio Athletic Conference Phil Gordon Co-Field Athlete of the Year, two-time USTFCCCA All-Great Lakes Region honors in the hammer throw, shot put and weight throw, named the OAC Outstanding Field Event participant for the second straight season, and two-time NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships qualifier.

Outside of throwing, Buckhannon is a third time USTFCCCA All-Academic selection, three-time Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference selection, Dean's List student, Jacket Scholar, Member of the Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society, Member of the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society, and Member of the Public Relations Society of America.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action when they travel to Canton on Thursday, April 27th to compete in the Walsh Tune-Up on Larry Staudt Field.
