Buckhannon Breaks OAC Record; Murphy Claims Two Titles; Women's Outdoor Track and Field Finish Fourth at the OAC Championships

ALLIANCE, Ohio - Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference thrower Brooke Buckhannon (Collins / Western Reserve) breaks an OAC record as junior All-American distance runner Hope Murphy (Mogadore) wins two OAC titles. The Baldwin Wallace Women's Outdoor Track and Field complete the OAC Championships in fourth place. 

The Yellow Jackets individual events highlights included: 

  • Murphy not one, but two OAC titles in the 1500-meter and 800-meter run. She placed won the 800-meter run in a time of 2:15.16 and won the 1500-meter run in a time of 4:41.76. 
  • Sophomore All-OAC runner Abby Collier (Dublin / Coffman) was runner-up in the 400-meter dash in a time of 57.71, earning herself a second career Outdoor All-OAC honors. She went on to place sixth in the 200-meter dash with a tiem of 26.06 seconds.
  • Senior Maddie Miller (Medina) placed 16th in the 5,000-meter run in a time of 19:23.51

Field events highlighted:

  • Buckhannon won the hammer throw as well as breaking the seven-year old OAC record of 178' 5", her mark being at 178' 9". She also was the runner up in shot put with a mark of 41' 2¼". She was fifth in the discus with a distance of 130' 9". She earned herself two All-OAC honors
    • She is also named the Ohio Athletic Conference Phil Gordon Field Athlete of the Year

On the relay side:

  • The 4x100 relay squad of freshman Julia Hurd (Avon Lake), freshman Morgan Aloi (Sylvania / Sylvania Northview), freshman Olivia Bradley (Hilliard / Hilliard Davidson), and Collier placed fourth in a time of 49.81 seconds
  • The All- OAC 4x400 relay team of AloiCollier, freshman Katie Plecko (Rootstown) and Murphy finished third in a time of 4:03.91

The Yellow Jackets are back in action Friday May 12th when it hosts Harrison Dillard Twilight inside George Finnie Stadium for an NCAA 'Last Chance Meet' to qualify for the NCAA Championships.
