BW Women’s Tennis Team Falls to Tusculum

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SOUTH CAROLINA -- The Baldwin Wallace University women's tennis team lost to Tusculum (Tenn.) College, 9-0, at the Hilton Head Beach & Resort on the first day of their Annual Spring Break trip. Earlier this morning, the Yellow Jackets beat Edgewood (Wisc.) College, 7-2.

With its loss, BW falls to 1-5 overall and is 1-2 on its annual spring break trip prior to playing Denison University tomorrow morning at 8:00 a.m. With its win, Tusculum improves to 7-2 this season.

Tusculum led, 3-0, after doubles play, and won all six singles matches to capture the victory.

In doubles play, the No. 1 tandem of three-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference and two-time All-Academic OAC senior Rebecca Mittler (Elyria/Elyria Catholic) and freshman Kelsey Blatt (Tallmadge) lost to Tusculum's sophomore Kate Hutchinson and senior Megan Buckmaster, 8-1. The No. 2 duo junior Morgan Baker (Vermilion/ Elyria Catholic) and junior Mackenzi Baker (Vermilion/Elyria  Catholic) lost to Tusculum's senior Taylor Patterson and freshman Erin Mills, 8-1.  At No. 3 doubles tandem of freshman Mackenzie Donalson (Hilliard/ Davidson) and junior Whitney Yoder (Medina) lost to Tusculum's freshman Amanda Sumner and Emily Waters, 8-0.

At No. 1 singles, Mitler lost to Hutchinson, 6-0 and 6-2. At No. 2, Blatt lost to Patterson, 6-2 and 6-1. At No 3., Morgan Baker lost to Mills, 6-1 and 6-2. No. 4, Donalson lost to Waters, 6-2 and 6-0. At No. 5, All-OAC senior Danielle Rueger (Ashland) lost to freshman Adrienne Kaye, 7-5 and 6-4. At No. 6, freshman Mackenzi Baker (Vermilion/Elyria Catholic) lost to Buckmaster, 6-2 and 6-0.
 
Following its match versus Denison tomorrow morning, the Yellow Jackets end their schedule in Hilton Head on Wednesday, March 13 by facing Fairleigh Dickinson (N.J.) University at 8:00 a.m. and Greenville (Ill.) College at 3:30 p.m.

The first northern match is at Division III powerhouse Kenyon College on March 22, the first Ohio Athletic Conference match is on March 27 at Muskingum University and the first home match at the "Pop" Collins Tennis Complex is against The College of Wooster on April 3 at 4:30 p.m.
