BW Women’s Tennis Beats Greenville (Ill.) in Hilton Head

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. -- The Baldwin Wallace University women's tennis team ended its 2013 Spring Break Trip to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina today (Wednesday, March 13, 2012) with an 8-1 victory against Greenville (Ill.) College at the Hilton Head Island Beach & Resort.

With its win, BW is 3-6 overall and next plays at NCAA Division III powerhouse Kenyon College on March 22. With its loss, Greenville is 2-2 this season.

The Yellow Jackets led, 3-0, after doubles play and won five of six singles matches to capture the victory.

In doubles play, the No. 1 duo of three-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference and two-time Academic All-OAC senior Becky Mittler (Elyria/ Elyria Catholic) and freshman Kelsey Blatt (Tallmadge) defeated seniors Jamie Harding and Kristin Minshall, 8-1, and improved their season record to 5-10.  The No. 2 tandem of junior Morgan Baker (Vermilion/ Elyria Catholic) and freshman Mackenzi Baker (Vermilion/ Elyria Catholic) beat junior Kristen Lynch and freshman Lexi Baysinger, 8-2, and improved to 3-11.  At No. 3, junior Whitney Yoder (Medina/ Senior) and freshman Mackenzie Donalson (Hilliard/ Davidson) defeated senior Kat Kennedy and junior Chelsie Evans, 8-2, to improve to 5-7. 

In singles play, No. 1 Mittler defeated Harding, 6-2 and 6-2, and improved her season record to 5-8. At No. 2, Blatt beat Lynch, 6-0 and 6-2, climbing to 7-7.  No. 4 Donalson defeated Evans, 6-1 and 6-5, upping her season record to 5-10.  At No. 5, All-OAC senior Danielle Rueger (Ashland/ Senior) beat Kennedy, 6-0 and 6-0, improving to 5-9. No. 6 Yoder defeated junior Jenna Rients, 6-0 and 6-2, and improved to 4-2. 

After playing at Kenyon on March 22, the Yellow Jackets play their first Ohio Athletic Conference match on March 27 at Muskingum University and their first home match at the "Pop" Collins Tennis Complex is against The College of Wooster on April 3 at 4:30 p.m.

The BW women's tennis program is in a rebuilding stage. The Yellow Jacket women have won four of the past six OAC titles and advanced to the NCAA Division III National Tournament four times.
