BW Women’s Tennis Falls to OAC Leader ONU, 7-2

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University women's tennis team lost to conference leader Ohio Northern University, 7-2, in an Ohio Athletic Conference match at the "Pop" Collins Tennis Courts. 

The loss drops BW to 8-9 overall and 4-2 in the OAC.  ONU improves to 21-4 overall and 7-0 in the OAC.

The Polar Bears took a 2-1 lead after doubles play and won five of six singles matches.

In doubles play, the No. 1 tandem of freshman Kelsey Blatt (Tallmadge) and All-OAC and Academic All-OAC senior Rebecca Mittler (Elyria/ Elyria Catholic) defeated freshman Rachael Miller and junior Michelle Tuma, 8-6, and improved their season record to 10-12.  Mittler now has 58 career doubles wins, is eighth in school history, and needs four more wins to move into a tie for seventh place with Jenny Greene (2008-12).

Mittler scored the Yellow Jackets' lone win in singles play, defeating Tuma, 1-6, 6-2, and 10-4, at No. 1, and climbed to 11-9 for the season.  She now has 54 career wins and moves into a tie for eighth place all-time with Katy Marshall (2007-11).

BW returns to the courts Monday, April 22 to host The College of Wooster at 4:30 p.m. before facing OAC and Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University on Tuesday, April 23 at 3:30 p.m. in University Heights.  The Yellow Jackets end their season by hosting both OAC rivals Otterbein University on Friday, April 26 at 3:30 p.m. and Marietta College on Saturday, April 27 at 1 p.m.
